Paper Industry is amongst the biggest polluters in the world. Papermaking requires forests to be cut down, consumes oodles of water, disposes harmful chemicals that pollute our land & water streams, and releases tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The paper industry is the third-largest user of energy in the U.S. Also, Tree paper or paper made from wood pulp contains only 30% -40% cellulose? Such low cellulose content means that trees are not a good paper source.
In 2022, the global consumption of paper amounts to an estimated 422 million metric tons. Breaking this down, the global consumption of paper comes to 13 tons every second. That means 234 matured trees disappear every second to produce paper. However, paper can easily be made tree-free without this enormous impact on the environment.
