HEMP PAPER

Hemp, like bamboo, is among the fastest-growing plants on earth. It offers several advantages in comparison to standard wood pulp paper-

1) Hemp yields 3-4 times more usable fiber per hectare per year than forests and doesn’t need pesticides or herbicides to grow.

2) The cellulose content is higher in hemp stalks. Cellulose is the main ingredient of paper. Hemp contains three times more cellulose fibers than wood pulp, which means that hemp provides more usable fiber pound for pound.

3) Hemp stalks can grow in 3-4 months, while trees can take 10 to 80 years. Not only does hemp grow at a faster rate, but it also contains a high level of cellulose. This quick return means that paper production could speed up if hemp replaces wood.

4) Production of paper from hemp does not require chlorine or chlorine derivates or as many chemicals as wood pulp because whitening can happen with hydrogen peroxide. No chemical involvement means replacing hemp with wood for paper would provide tremendous environmental benefits by ending the creation of chlorine or dioxin runoff.

5) Paper made from Hemp is recyclable up to 10-12 times, compared to just 5-7 times for paper made from wood pulp.

6) Paper made from hemp provides 70-80% energy savings over virgin pulp paper

Hemp is, thus, one of nature’s solutions to all the problems associated with the use of wood paper. Make an eco-conscious choice with these papers!
