BAGASSE PAPER

UPCYCLED BAGASSE PAPER

When juice is extracted from sugarcane, Bagasse is a dry, fibrous residue. These fibers are useful in creating fine paper with all the qualities and benefits of wood pulp paper, only more durable and without the need for any trees cut for making paper.

Not only are we upcycling a natural, existing by-product, but the resultant sugarcane paper is biodegradable and non-toxic, making it a great sustainable alternative to wood pulp paper.

Handmade paper from sugarcane

Bagasse only takes one year to grow and harvest, whereas Trees used to make wood pulp paper can take 10- 80 years to grow. It takes 5000kgs of wood to produce 1000kgs of pulp and 1500kgs of Bagasse for the same amount. Thus, growing Bagasse uses far fewer resources per hectare of cultivated land.

Typically, from processing 100 tons of sugarcane in a factory, 30–34 tons of biobased carbon balanced sugarcane residual fiber called “bagasse” is obtained (of which 22–24 tons are processed). Bagasse consists of 45%-55% cellulose and 20-25% Hemicellulose-key ingredients to make paper. Sometimes mixed with cotton rags, Bagasse is used to create our alluring papers.

India is the second-largest producer of Sugarcane in the World. The country offers a lot of Bagasse for the commercial production of bagasse paper in large quantities.

🌲Upcycled Wood-Free Paper: Production of this paper requires no tree cut. Besides, sugarcane is a perineal crop that grows all year round!

🚫 Acid-Free Paper- no chemicals used; the paper is naturally pH neutral.
