Just like every idea, we started with the question, “Why?”
Why are we in a climate emergency? Why is the planet suffering? And Why is it that we as species haven’t been able to preserve the world we live in?
With these questions, we knew we had to do things differently. We knew we had to create Functional, Earth Friendly Products that communicate the importance of minimalism, overall social & community development, and harmony between nature & the modern man.
While penning our visionary goals onto paper, we started connecting to paper as an inspirational source of a creative mind. We discerned that paper is the most potent medium for cognitive offloading ideas.
While researching the history of papermaking, we became aware that principal raw materials for paper manufacturing came from plant fibers such as Hemp, Flax, Cotton rags. Because of the increase in demand for paper and a shortage of cotton rags, wood-based papermaking became popular ever since its introduction in the mid of 19th Century.
We see that cotton rags are again available in abundance with changing times, thanks to the ever-increasing demand for fashion garments. Also, improvements in technology have made it possible to create paper out of other plant-based fibers such as sugarcane, corn husk, coffee husk, etc.
With the easy availability of plant-based fibers & improvements in production technology, and with our vision to create a wood-free paper that is Earth-Friendly, The Urban Nordic was born.
